1. What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how JC Studio ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use Grabrella (the "App"), including its Android home widget and live wallpaper. Grabrella does not require an account.
2. Information processed
- Location. If you choose "Use current location," the App requests Android foreground location permission and processes your approximate or precise coordinates to find local weather and a place label. The App does not request background location permission or continuously collect GPS in the background. If you enable a widget, live wallpaper, or weather notification after selecting current location, the last selected coordinate may be reused for a background weather refresh; no new GPS fix is requested in that background task. You can instead search for and save a city without granting location permission.
- Local location context. When current location is selected, the last coordinate and place label may be stored locally so optional widget, live-wallpaper, and notification features can refresh. Clearing App data or uninstalling removes these local values.
- City searches and weather requests. Search text, coordinates, language, and basic network information such as IP address are sent to weather and geocoding providers so they can return results. Current-location weather requests pass through our Supabase weather function, which may use a coarse server-side cache to reduce repeated provider requests.
- App settings. Saved cities, units, language, visual style, widget preferences, and wallpaper settings are stored locally on your device.
- Ads and consent. If ads are available, Google Mobile Ads may process advertising identifiers, IP address, device and app information, ad interactions, diagnostics, and your consent choices. We do not intentionally send your GPS coordinates to the advertising SDK. Where required, you can choose whether eligible ads are personalized.
- Purchases. Google Play and RevenueCat may process purchase history, product identifiers, transaction status, App User ID, device/app information, and diagnostics to complete purchases, restore access, prevent fraud, and maintain subscription entitlements. We do not receive your full payment card details.
- Anonymous app analytics. When the App starts, it sends a randomly generated install identifier (created on your device, not linked to any account or device ID), the launch date, platform, app version, your selected app language, how many cities you saved, whether a widget is set, and whether a subscription is active. Once per new install, it also sends whether the first weather load succeeded (loaded, location permission declined, failed, or timed out) and how long it took. We use this only to count installs and active users, to see which features are actually used, and to find first-launch problems. It contains no account, no name, no contact details, no location, and no city names. You can clear the identifier by clearing App storage or uninstalling the App.
3. How information is used
We use the information above to provide local forecasts, city search, air-quality information, widgets and wallpaper; remember your settings; unlock paid features and restore purchases; show optional ads and honor consent choices; troubleshoot failures; protect the App; and comply with legal obligations.
4. Services that process information
Grabrella uses service providers acting under their own terms and privacy policies:
- Weather providers, including WeatherAPI, OpenWeather, and regional public weather services, for forecasts and air-quality results. These requests are routed through the Supabase weather function and the provider used can vary by location and availability.
- Open-Meteo for some city-search results, and Photon/Komoot for multilingual city search.
- Nominatim and OpenStreetMap services for place labels returned from current coordinates.
- Google for Google Play services, billing, consent management, and mobile advertising.
- RevenueCat for subscription status and purchase entitlement management.
- Supabase operates the weather function that receives weather coordinates and hosts the database that stores the anonymous install and launch counts described above.
These providers may process data in countries other than yours. Their handling of information is governed by their own policies.
5. Permissions
- Location: requested only for the optional current-location feature, after you grant foreground permission. The App does not request a background GPS fix; a previously selected coordinate may be reused for optional background weather refresh as described above.
- Internet: required to retrieve forecasts, search cities, serve eligible ads, and verify purchases.
- Wallpaper service: lets Android display Grabrella as a live wallpaper. It does not grant access to your photos.
6. Storage and retention
Local settings and, when applicable, the current-location context remain on your device until you remove them, clear App data, or uninstall the App. Weather and geocoding providers, including the Supabase weather function, retain request data or cached results under their own policies and operational limits. Purchase and entitlement records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide access, prevent fraud, meet accounting or legal duties, and resolve disputes.
7. Your choices
- Use a searched city instead of device location, or revoke location permission in Android settings.
- Select a saved city and disable optional widgets, live wallpaper, or weather notifications if you do not want the last current-location context reused for background refresh.
- Review eligible advertising privacy choices when the consent form is offered in the App.
- Reset or limit your device advertising identifier through Android settings.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play and use "Restore purchases" in the App.
- Clear local information by clearing App storage or uninstalling Grabrella.
8. Children
Grabrella is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in their country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review the issue.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. No in-app account
Grabrella currently has no user account system, so there is no separate account to delete. You can remove locally stored App data through Android settings or by uninstalling. Google Play purchase records are controlled by Google; subscription access questions can be sent to us.
11. Changes
We may update this policy when the App, providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the new effective date on this page and provide additional notice when required.
